Preparation and application of polysiloxane-modified amphiphilic hyperbranched polyesters

Abstract

A polysiloxane-modified amphiphilic hyperbranched polyester (HBPPSi) has been synthesized through the reaction between the alkyl hydroxyl end-groups of a polysiloxane and the COOH end-groups of a hyperbranched polyester, and the structure of the polymer was identified by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. The resulting HBPPSi has good solubility in both polar solvents (such as ethanol) and non-polar solvents (such as toluene). The self-assembly behavior of the HBPPSi in ethanol/water solvents was studied by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the HBPPSi could form hollow vesicles with different shapes and structures in mixed ethanol/water solvents, and a defoaming agent—which was formulated from the HBPPSi, dimethyl silicone, and hydrophobic nano-silica—showed an excellent defoaming performance.
