Thermodynamics study of the static adsorption of salvianolic acid B by an ion-exchange fiber

Abstract

The static thermodynamic adsorption properties of a self-made strongly basic ion exchange fiber (IEF) for the adsorption of salvianolic acid B have been investigated. The best system for static adsorption of salvianolic acid B by the IEF was a 60% methanol aqueous solution at pH 9. Under static conditions, the adsorption enthalpy, the Gibbs free energy and the entropy of adsorption were obtained by measuring adsorption isotherms at different concentrations and fitting the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm equations. The adsorption is a spontaneous endothermic process involving an increase in entropy.
