Abstract

Highly transparent polycarbonate (PC)/ZnO nanocomposite films with good ultraviolet (UV)-shielding performance have been successfully obtained by a simple solution mixing method using cyclohexanone (CYC) as a co-solvent. The prepared nanocomposite films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-visible spectroscopy. The nanocomposite films exhibited good UV-shielding properties (above 92%) without loss of visible transparency (98%) even when the ZnO content was 10% (mass fraction). The as-prepared PC/ZnO composite films possess higher transmittance in the visible light region and better UV-shielding properties than a commercial product.
