Synthesis and structural analysis of beryllium acetylacetonate

Abstract

Beryllium acetylacetonate has been synthesized using beryllium oxide, concentrated sulfuric acid and acetylacetone as starting materials. The product was characterized by powder Xray diffraction, elemental analysis, UV visible absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The results showed that the strong electron withdrawing effect of Be2+ and the ring current of the chelate ring were both clearly observed. The chelate ring formed between Be2+ and acaccontains conjugate π-bonds which contribute to the stability of Be(acac)2.
