A model for a methanol reforming reactor has been established based on the mecha nism of the production of hydrogen by methanol steam reforming proposed by Peppley et al. Simulation of the steam reforming of methanol has been carried out, an d the results compared with experimental data obtained under different operating conditions. The relative error between the simulated and experimental results was found to be 1.13%. Under the optimal conditions, with an inlet temperature o f 570K and ratio of flow rate of methanol in the reforming reactor to that in the combustion chamber (FM,R/FM,B) of 8.5, the simulation results showed that the maximum hydrogen production can reach 2.64(mol/mol).
