Preparation of polyester/nano-ZnO composites by in-situ reaction

Abstract

Carboxyl terminated poly(diethylene glycol adipate) (PDA) has been synthesized by the polycondensation of adipic acid with diethylene glycol in a molar ratio of 1.1. Trimethoxysilane terminated PDA (PDA-Si) was prepared by reaction of the carboxyl terminated PDA with γ glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH560). A mixture of PDA-Si and zinc ethoxide was hydrolyzed by moisture in the air or by addition of aqueous ethanol at 40℃ for 5h, both with and without heat treatment at 120℃. The resulting polyester/nano-ZnO composites were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and TEM.
