A delamination-resistant lead dixoide electrode deposited on iron
A composite lead dioxide electrode electrodeposited on iron has been prepared by three-step anodic electro-deposition. Iron was first electro-oxidized in 4mol/L KOH solution at a current density of 60mA/cm2 and a temperature of 80℃ to form a primary oxide layer. XPS analysis indicates that this primary oxide layer is Fe3O4. A β-PbO2 layer, which has good adhesion with the primary oxide layer, was then electrodeposited as an intermediate layer followed by the deposition of an α-PbO2 layer having high electrochemical activity as the top layer. The Fe/FexOy/β-PbO2/α-PbO2 composite electrode was characterized by XPS, XRD, AC impedance and SEM. The mechanical properties of the electrode were also evaluated using the standard paint film adhesion test. The electrode was shown to possess both good adhesion properties and high electrochemical activity.
