Modified linseed oil (MLO) was synthesized using linseed oil and dicyclopentadiene, and a new functional thiol siloxane colloid was prepared from 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS) via a sol-gel method. A UV-curable organic-inorganic hybrid film was developed based on a combination of the modified linseed oil, thiol siloxane and a photoinitiator. Its thermal stability was evaluated by TGA, its morphology was observed via AFM and the UV-curing activity was investigated by Photo-DSC. It was found that the thermal stability of the hybrid film is higher than that of a pure linseed oil film, that the hybrid film exhibits a microphase separation structure, and that the presence of thiol siloxane colloids can greatly increase the free radical polymerization rate.
