Study of Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Corrugated Tubes

Abstract

Fluid flow and heat transfer in a corrugated tube is numerically and experimentally studied in this paper. The influence of different Reynolds Number, wave shape and pipe diameter is investigated. It is found that in turbulent region, the average convection film coefficient in a corrugated tube is about 1.78~3.10 times of that in a straight tube under the same condition, and the region for highest heat transfer strengthening appears when Re is about 10000. To facilitate engineering design and application of corrugated tube heat exchangers, a formula for the calculation of the average convection film coefficient of the fluid in a corrugated tube is also given.
